The Village of Tinley Park is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Building Official to lead its Building Division during an exciting period of growth and development. As one of Illinois’ largest and most vibrant communities, Tinley Park offers the opportunity to oversee a wide range of residential, commercial, mixed-use, and redevelopment projects while helping maintain the high standards that make the Village a premier destination for residents and businesses alike.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Community Development Director, the Building Official leads a ten-member Building Division and plays a critical role in ensuring safe, high-quality development throughout the Village. This position oversees building code enforcement, permitting, inspections, plan review, code interpretation, and compliance activities while serving as a trusted resource for residents, contractors, architects, developers, and business owners.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • ICC Residential Building Inspector certification
  • Five to seven years of experience in building inspection, code enforcement, construction, building design, or a closely related field
  • At least three years of supervisory experience

A bachelor’s degree in building engineering, architecture, construction engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. Additional ICC certifications are required within six months of appointment, with Village reimbursement provided for successful completion.
